I am an artist.
I believe sharing art is powerful and creating art is worthwhile. I believe art is made by humans, for humans.
As an artist, I will never use AI as an artificial replacement for creating authentic human art from my authentic human experience.
I will embrace the messiness of human-made art and revel in the weirdness that makes existence interesting.
I will make art because I want to and because I love it.
I will not accuse other artists of using AI just because I don’t like their work.
I will simply avoid art that is poorly made, formulaic, inauthentic, plagiarized, thoughtless, unoriginal, and displeasing to me, whether it was made with AI or not.
I will always wholeheartedly support and promote the art and the artists that I love.
I will not respond to AI-related criticisms of my own work with process videos that will train the robots to better replace me. I will ignore the trolls and focus solely on my art and my community.
I will make the best and most authentic art I can make.
I will live my life to the fullest and remind myself that social media isn’t real life.
I will love myself for being human, for being an artist, for being me. I will remember that it’s enough to try and to laugh and to love.
I will not confuse content for art.
I will not let the internet or any algorithms dictate what I can and cannot make.
I will love the art that I love because I love it. My opinions don’t need the validation of strangers.
I will never stop learning and never stop trying new things.
I love making art.
I love making connections.
I love being human.
And I will never let anyone convince me that art—real art, good art—belongs to anyone other than us, the messy, glorious, beautiful humans who need it to survive.
Stay excellent,
Kristen Sommers
