Small-town baker Kendra Hale has a recipe for everything: the perfect macaron, the perfect movie night, the perfect (totally platonic) relationship with her best friend Alden. Mix all the right ingredients and you’ll always get the right results.

So when Kendra finds herself (through only minor fault of her own) in charge of the two-hundredth annual Bellevue Christmas Spectacular, she’s not too worried. Taking on the planning of a beloved town-wide Christmas tradition simply calls for a bigger recipe card, some color-coded highlighters, and the help of her curmudgeonly yet charismatic best friend and his con-loving twelve-year-old daughter.

But despite her best efforts, people are not nearly as predictable as pastry dough.

When frazzled late nights with Alden start to stir up latent romantic feelings and an unexpected offer from an old friend turns up the already unbearable heat, Kendra is forced to choose between following the recipes she’s known forever and following the messy pull of her heart. Sometimes it takes everything falling apart to realize that the perfect missing ingredient has been there all along, sipping gin and tonics in a sexy thrifted cardigan.
